Sekoma Island Lodge is situated on the Mambova rapids on the Zambezi River, Southern parts of Zambia opposite Impalila Island the South Eastern tip of the Caprivi Strip. The lodge is canopied by trees and lush surroundings with a full view of the Zambezi River. The main area consists of a bar, an open boma with al fresco dining taking full advantage of the views of the Zambezi River. The only inhabitants on the island are the Lodge staff and the odd bachelor herd of elephants that seek refuge in the dense Sekoma forest - and a wide variety of bird life. Electricity Power is supplied by a generator which operates during the morning and evening hours. Tents and public areas are lit through an inverter driven battery system and provides 24 hours light. Battery charge facilities are available at the office.
The lodge accommodates 16 guests in large tents on a raised deck overlooking the river. Each tent is twin bedded, has en-suite facilities, and is furnished with a wardrobe, bedside pedestals and traditional director's chairs on the private deck. For the guest’s comfort and convenience the tents contain mosquito and insect repellent as well as bottled water.

Sekoma Fishing Seasons
The start of the best fishing season depends on how late the wet season continues. When the level of the Zambezi starts dropping and water recedes from the floodplains, the fishing starts improving - generally late May/early June. Your water clarity also starts improving at this point. June/July the Serranochromis species (mainly Nembwe, Thinface & Humpback) start coming on the bite and Tiger on artificials improves as water clarity gets better. Natural bait is much of a muchness throughout, scent being more effective than visibility.
Around September the Tilapia species (mainly Redbreast), Oreochromis species (mainly Threespot) and Sargochromis species (mainly Pink Happy) should start coming on the bite, as this is when they start nesting. These species are generally small mouth algae, invertabrate and mollusc feeders, so attack artificials out of aggression (nest protection), rather than hunger. Around November when the female Tiger start getting ready to spawn is when the really heavy fish are taken (full of roe).
International flights go to Livingstone (Zambia) or Kasane (Botswana).
For guests arriving from Kasane, there is a boat transfer from Kasane Immigration Jetty to the Island. The transfer duration is approximately 45 minutes.
For guests arriving via Livingstone, there is a road transfer from Livingstone to the village of Mambova, (1hr 20mins) from where you would be transferred by boat to Sekoma Island.(15mins)
Self drivers can park their vehicles at the Ichingo/Ichobezi offices for safe keeping at Kasane and transfer across to the island.
