Fordoun Hotel and Spa - Location and FacilitiesFordoun is situated in the green pastures of a successful Nottingham Road dairy farm, which has a history dating back to the 1800s. The original farm buildings have been painstakingly adapted into the atmospheric and gracious Fordoun Spa, Hotel and Restaurant, in a fusing of state-of-the-art leisure and spa facilities with the timeless tranquillity of by-gone days.

Fordoun combines the attractions of an upmarket boutique hotel and spa with a top class conference, wedding and event destination and a superior restaurant. Fordoun caters for resident guests of the hotel as well as day visitors to the spa and, from Thursdays to Sunday lunch, to members of the public wishing to dine at the restaurant Skye.

The conference centre at Fordoun caters for up to forty delegates, with quality equipment on hand and all the resources and facilities of the spa and restaurant nearby. The spacious, high-ceilinged main conference room lends itself to use for numerous other events and functions.

Accommodation & Rates


Fordoun Hotel and Spa - Accomodation
The hotel comprises seventeen luxurious, individually appointed double suites with private verandas, underfloor heating and dream bathrooms, each with bath and shower, and a dressing area. Each room has its own television, and tea/coffee-making facilities. There is also a double suite with wheelchair access and specially adapted bathroom. Despite its luxurious atmosphere, and emphasis on quality, Fordoun’s rates are surprisingly competitive in relation to similar hydros elsewhere.

What is included

  • All rates include breakfast, free use of the heated swimming pool, floatation tank, sauna, steam room and gym. Please be advised that booking is essential for the use of the floatation tank.
What is not included
  • Items of a personal nature, gratuities, laundry, meals, drinks, travel insurance
Children
Children are most welcome at Fordoun.

Activities


Fordoun Hotel and Spa - Activities There are a vaiety of activities available, namely:-

Fly-fishing.

Wildfly offers guided fishing trips and clinics with qualified, experienced guides to a selection of 25 Stillwater’s and 24km’s of scheduled river. Clinic packages are available in Half day (4 hours) and full day (8 hours) clinics. Guiding and Clinic fees are charged per person:

Half day Clinic
– R485 per Angler. This includes rod fees and guiding fees with an additional manual explaining all the theory of fly-fishing.

Full day Clinic - R885 per Angler. This option goes into more detail about the theory of fly-fishing and includes a light finger lunch.

Fly-fishing Clinics and Guided Adventures can be tailor made to suite your party or clients needs.

 
Spa
Fordoun Spa boasts a team of experts that include personal trainers, masseurs, nutritionists and beauticians.

The spa features internationally acclaimed treatments such as the rasul, (a Turkish steam and clay treatment room), a saline Floatation pool, heated swimming pool, a gymnasium, sauna, steam room, vichy shower, hydrotherapy room, and a couples’ treatment suite with hydrotherapy bath.

Treatments available at Fordoun include:
  • Aromatherapy body and bath treatments, using exotic blends of essential oils to suit each customer’s needs;
  • Detoxing and therapeutic Moor body packs and masks;
  • Hydrotherapy baths and showers;
  • Thalassotherapy seaweed treatments;
  • Various massages, including sports massage, neck and shoulders, foot reflexology.
Part of the holistic relevance of everything at Fordoun has led to the development of the Fordoun signature range of products, created in conjunction with Dr Elliot Ndlovu, herbalist and ethnobotanist, who is a Sangoma and Inyanga, and a director of Fordoun Spa.

Under his guidance, a number of products have been carefully created from indigenous traditional healing plants, especially for Fordoun. The range includes soaps, gels, protective clays, oils, bath salts, lotions and creams, and sprays, based on the theme of the seven Chakras and the seven colours of the rainbow. A luxury Eau de Toilette range, Ma’Ndlovu for women and BabaNdlovu for men, has been designed for both the local and export markets.

Fordoun will also make use of other exclusive international beauty treatment ranges, including products by Germaine du Cappucini, Repechage, and La Culla.
Outdoor Activities

Fordoun is located in the rolling grasslands of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, where the air is crystal-clear and smog and traffic are echoes of another lifestyle. Guests can enjoy gentle walks around the grounds, visit the herb garden of Dr Ndlovu, or ride on mountain bikes or horseback along designated routes through the Fordoun estate. Fly-fishing is available on three still waters on Fordoun, or, in season, in the pristine waters of the nearby Bushman’s River. Golf is available at the magnificent Bosch Hoek course a few minutes away in Balgowan.

DIRECTIONS FROM JOHANNESBURG TO FORDOUN
Take the N3 Highway south from Johannesburg heading towards Durban.
Approximately 15km After the Mooi River Plaza toll gate take the Nottingham Road off-ramp.
At the stop street turn right heading towards Nottingham Road for about 3km and we are on the right hand side.
At the entrance to the driveway you will see a large sign on the wall reading: “Fordoun Hotel / Spa / Restaurant”.
Follow the driveway for 400 metres to the hotel reception.

DIRECTIONS FROM DURBAN TO FORDOUN
Take N3 from Durban heading towards Johannesburg.
Take the Nottingham Road Turn Off, which is about 15km before Mooi River Toll Gate
At stop turn right and head towards Nottingham Road for about 3km and we are on the right hand side.
At the entrance to the driveway you will see a large sign on the wall reading: “Fordoun Hotel / Spa / Restaurant”.
Follow drive for 400 meters to hotel reception.
