Your time at Creel Lodge, whether on holiday, business, or just a weekend away fishing, is very important and we want you to relax and enjoy the private tranquil setting.  Creel sits in its own grounds away from noisy highways, among established native bush and trees.  You can just sit back and read your favourite book, or stroll through the gate at the rear of the property and go fishing, or just watch the experts catch big fish in Tongariro’s many famous pools.  

The accommodation has been tastefully furnished, with full cooking facilities should you decide to self cater, all suites offer both inside and outside dining areas.  In addition there are three sheltered BBQ’s situated on the lawn areas supplied free of charge for guest use.

If you decide to dine out there is an excellent selection of food and wine ranging from New Zealand fish and chips, to luxurious lodge restaurants, and bistros - all just a short distance by car, or an evening stroll from Creel.
Fishing Licenses, plus all your tackle and equipment are all available to purchase or hire from the Creel Tackle House shop, located at the front of the property.

Activities

The Tongariro Crossing - Hiking as you will only experience in New Zealand.

The Tongariro Crossing climbs 17km/10 miles through spectacular volcanic terrain leading through open plains up into wide plateues, flanked by mountains and stunning volcanic lakes.  Your hike will lead you to the Red Crater (1886m / 6184ft) passing between the two active volcanoes - Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe, before descending via the Emerald and Blue Lakes to Ketetahi Hot Springs and back to the car park.  Allow 8 hours for the walk.

Fishing and river walks are at the bottom of Creel's garden. Your access is through the private gate, so leave your car parked at your cabin and pop off to fish or walk . On your return enjoy a cup of tea or evening cocktail while enjoying our park like gardens here at Creel.

Choosing Creel Lodge as your base will provide you with access to activities such as the world famous Tongariro Crossing, excellent winter and spring skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, sailing, walking, and year round lake and river fishing.

How to get there

Getting to Creel Lodge is easy, with a number daily scheduled flights by Air New Zealand from all major cities to Taupo airport. Taupo airport is only (40km / 25 miles) 30 minutes scenic drive around the Southeastern shores of Lake Taupo to Turangi and Creel Lodge.

If time is of the essence helicopter and air charter transfers are available from Auckland, Wellington and Rotorua. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the central North Island from your air transport and touchdown at the Turangi air strip. Flying from Auckland or Wellington to Creel Lodge ? takes around 1 hr 30 minutes, and flying from Rotorua to Creel Lodge allow 40 minutes. Creel Lodge staff are happy to arrange transport from the airport to the lodge, which is only 10 minutes drive away.

If you have a little more time you can take a rental car driving from either Auckland or Wellington, the distance is approx 340km / 200 miles. From both major cities, allow 4 hours drive time.
