The Barotse Tiger Camp rests gracefully upon the eastern bank of the magnificent Zambezi River, opposite the Liuwa Plains National Park. It offers fishing enthusiasts, and their guests world-class tented luxury accommodation and unparalleled guided fly fishing adventures, in one of the most pristine and remote freshwater fishing locations on earth.

Within this region there is an abundance of wildlife. The area has been described as something of a holy grail for wildlife enthusiasts, simply due to its array of wildlife, its phenomenal fauna and flora and its remoteness.

Thousands of wildebeest migrate to the lush plains after the rains in what is considered to be Africa’s second largest animal migration. A host of other animals habitat the plains too, including oribi, zebra, red lechwe as well as predators such as hyenas, lion, and the occasional cheetah. The birdlife is rich and varied with about 450 of Zambia’s recorded 740 species found in this region. Of particular note are the water birds where sheer numbers can be staggering. The extremely abundant eco-system continues to exist partly due to the remoteness of Barotseland, which forms part of the Kingdom of the Lozi in western Zambia

The main tented area offers guests an opulent and relaxing fusion of Afro-colonial chic. Each of the six sumptuous river-front tents are discretely situated within their own private setting, with unforgettable views across the Zambezi river and the Barotse flood plain. These well-appointed tents are available with single or double beds, all beds are fitted with unobtrusive mosquito nets.

After a long day of fishing on the Zambezi enjoy fine cuisine in a separate dining tent, prepared by our resident chef, Simon. Only the finest and freshest ingredients are used to create a fusion of traditional and contemporary tastes.

Relax in the stylish bar or lounge area - the perfect settings to relax and enjoy sun-downers. Imagine the African sun setting and spreading an array of brilliant colours across the horizon, closely followed by a gradually deepening navy speckled with thousands of twinkling stars that spread across the expanse above.....

Experience the thrill of a truly unique and exhilarating fishing experience!
The Zambezi River teems with huge schools of fish, particularly tiger fish and several species of bream (including threespot and nembwe). Daily excursions deliver action and excitement.

Fishing excursions at Barotse Tiger Camp are the order of the day, along the river banks in customized 18 ft aluminum boats powered by 60hp Mercury 4 stroke motors and equipped with GPS fish finder combos, especially designed for anglers. Comfortably accommodating two fly fishermen, each boat is skippered by one of our knowledgeable and experienced local river guides.

You are spoilt both in and out of camp, combining a fantastic stay and magnificent experience, one very few are privileged to experience. This well presented camp offers a beautiful base from which to explore, the Zambezi within the exciting and remote area of western Zambia. The camp is neatly presented, merging beautifully within a picturesque, pristine bush setting.

For the fishing enthusiast you can feel close to heaven, in a place where very few have explored. The untouched waters that await you, awakening your senses as you take in the awe-inspiring scenes.

After the excitement of the morning, no need to interrupt a good day's fishing! You can take a gourmet picnic lunch with you if required. Alternatively we'll meet you on the river for a full banquet complete with white linen tableware!

The clear pristine stretches of river in the Barotse region consist of myriad islands, lagoons and channels which combine to create an idyllic setting - and world-class freshwater fishing conditions.

How to get there

Arriving via South Africa; We can arrange your private charter direct from Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg to the Barotse Tiger Camp, clearing customs and immigration in Livingstone. Your aircraft and pilot will remain with you for the duration of your stay.

Another option is to fly to either Livingstone or Lusaka via a commercial carrier from Oliver Tambo Airport in Johannesburg and then connect with a local charter company to the Barotse Tiger Camp.
