Accommodation & RatesAlladale LodgeThe Lodge built in 1877, has been recently refurbished by Laura Ashley, and stands on an elevated plateau surrounded by native woods with spectacular views over some of Scotland's most northerly ancient Caledonian Scots pine forest. Originally built as a Sporting lodge, Alladale has maintained its traditional, yet sumptuous, style and comfort. Large elegant rooms with original fireplaces, tall sash windows and many antiques throughout, give you the sense and atmosphere of 'home-from-home'. The Lodge comfortably accommodates up to 14 guests in 7 en-suite bedrooms and 1 twin room. The bedding and linen in the bedrooms and bathrooms have been selected with care, with an emphasis on natural fibres throughout; goose down pillows, finest English lambs wool blankets, pure Egyptian mercerised cotton sheets and best quality cotton toweling robes. Eagles Crag ![]() Eagle’s Crag, the larger of our two stone-built bothies, comprises two luxury double rooms with en-suite ‘wetroom’ bathrooms. The large living area features high-ceilings and exposed beams with beautiful deer antler chandeliers. The bothy features a fully equipped, beautifully, hand-made, Scottish oak kitchen and in keeping with this luxury finish, Alladale has installed the latest in Sonos technology throughout the building with a 50” flat screen TV, DVD player, ipod dock, wi-fi and Skype. The extraordinary location of Eagle’s Crag is very remote yet easily accessible. Looking down over the Alladale river, Eagle’s Crag features panoramic windows on each side of the living area providing incredible views of the glen and the ancient Caledonian forest. Ghillie’s Rest Ghillie’s Rest, the smaller our two stone built bothies, comprises of one luxury double room and a twin room. Set in Glen Alladale facing the Alladale River, the bothy is a beautiful building with incredible views. The living area features high ceilings with a beautiful deer antler chandelier and wood-burning stove. Locally sourced wooden flooring with under floor heating is complimented with stone features and fabrics and furniture but local company, Anta. The upstairs of the bothy features a quiet reading area and leads into a good-sized twin bedroom. Rates Alladale Properties Note: Rates vary with numbers in the party for accommodations. Please call Wildfly Travel for a quote. ActivitiesFly FishingExcellent trout and salmon fishing make Alladale the perfect place for fishing amidst the glorious scenery of the estate. There are 10 hill lochs on Alladale, most posing a challenging hike for guests! Brown trout are the predominant species and are plentiful, artic char are less numerous. The Carron and Alladale rivers offer salmon and trout fishing. A limited selection of fishing tackle is available for use at the lodge, but we recommend that the experienced bring their own tackle. Deer Stalking ![]() Alladale is the "jewel in the crown" of traditional Highland stalking. In line with our mission to "restore the balance of nature", we are sensitively reducing deer numbers to an acceptable level where native woods can regenerate. Our rangers demonstrate supreme skills and fitness as they go about their work which is carried out to the highest standards of welfare. Guests can experience the age-old skills of "the stalk" and cull carried out to the highest standards of welfare. Before you are allowed on the hill, our rangers will test your skills on the rifle range to ensure that the stalk can be carried out with the utmost care and efficiency. Guests are more than welcome to use lodge rifles and binoculars. Bike Rides Explore routes through 5 glens and numerous tracks within the Reserve. You can choose a route to match the time you have available and your fitness. In addition, there are opportunities to visit other attractions "off Reserve". Glencalvie Falls (2 hours) beautiful waterfalls that provide a testing challenge for salmon to pass as they make their way up to the spawning grounds within the Reserve. An excellent initial ride to gently prepare the body for longer rides during the week. Croick Church (3 hours) a combination of unmade and sealed road to visit a church of historical importance, calling in at Glencalvie Falls en route. At Croick Church, many local families sought refuge during the infamous Highland Clearances. A gentle ride on the outward leg, but an excellent workout when coming home! www.croickchurch.com Glen Alladale (3 hours) a stone track ride along this beautiful glacial valley passing old croft ruins on the way to a magnificent view of the glacial valley and the ancient Skiach Wood. Deanich Lodge (4 hours) a stunning 7 mile ride to Alladale’s sister lodge. Visitors marvel at the spectacular scenery en route to one of the most remote lodges in the Highlands. Deanich is the base for our eco-volunteer program. "The Bonar Bridge Loop" (5 hours) so now you're fit?! Ride down on the south side of the river Carron and return on the northern shore for a journey to explore the village of Ardgay. Bonar Bridge is just one mile from Ardgay where you can enjoy a snack at numerous places. Clay & Rifle Shooting We are fortunate to have a clay pigeon trap and rifle range on the reserve. The nature of their work calls for our rangers are "crack" shots and their personal tuition will ensure that you will in all probability leave the Reserve as a much better shot than when you arrived! Alladale Pony Trekking Pony trekking at Alladale is available to guests and non-guests throughout the year. Our ‘Highland' ponies are renowned for their ability and passive nature to happily traverse some of the toughest terrain. Riders will trek deep into the Reserve where some of the most breathtaking scenery awaits you. This makes for an unforgettable experience whether you are an experienced rider or not. Explore Alladale on foot accompanied by one of our capable and experienced estate rangers; an excellent way to experience the freedom and beauty of the estate and appreciate the diversity of flora and fauna. All levels of fitness are catered for when guests participate in guided walls on the Reserve. Please bring good walking shoes or boots. Golf There are many excellent local courses including the championship course of Royal Dornoch, the challenging links of Brora and the curiously complex course at Tain. We have 8 full sets of Callaway X20 clubs available at the Lodge for your use. Please ask the Lodge Team should you need any assistance in booking tee times, and we will be happy to arrange transport to and from the course of your choice. ROYAL DORNOCH GOLF COURSE (20 miles) Acclaimed as one of the finest links courses, Royal Dornoch is proud to be one of the original locations of golf in Scotland. Centuries before the golf club was founded, records show the game was being played in 1616 on the town land on the links along the seashore. Tel: 01862 810219 www.royaldornoch.com BONAR BRIDGE GOLF COURSE (13 miles) Dramatic hills form the backdrop to this picturesque nine-hole course that we highly recommend to our guests. The smell of pine trees and the views down to Loch Migdale from various points on the course, make this a lovely contrast to Sutherland's links courses. It remains a challenging test of a true traditional links course. Tel: 01431821063 Whisky Tasting What better way to restore one's vigour after a day exploring the spectacular Alladale Wilderness Reserve, than to sample the many locally produced whiskies in front of a roaring log fire in the comfort of Alladale Lodge. The Scottish highlands are renowned for producing the finest malt whiskies, and Alladale is in the heart of 'whisky country' close to the famous Glenmorangie Distilleries. Tours can be arranged at the distillery or guests can enjoy a bespoke tasting session with an expert guide by arrangement at the lodge. How to get thereThere are regular flights to Inverness Airport from all major cities, a flight from London takes less than 2 hours.
