The Kalahari desert is the sink into which over 9 cubic kilometers of water drain every year forming the largest fresh water wetland in Southern Africa.
This is the Okavango Delta, undiscovered to the outside world until the mid 1800’s
The Okavango system joins three countries, sprouting in the highlands of Angola, carving it’s way through Namibia until eventually creating the natural wonder of the Delta in Botswana. In total the Okavango basin covers 192 500 square kilometers.
The houseboat KUBU QUEEN is a perfect live aboard, from which to conduct fishing safaris. The Kubu Queen is based in the pan-handle at Shakawe. The houseboat is moored at a different location each night. Two tender boats accompany the Kubu Queen and these are used to explore the channels and lagoons in the area.
One of the world's finest freshwater fighting fish inhabits these waters and guests have the opportunity to go out on the tender boats to try their hand at hooking into the mighty Tiger Fish.
The beauty of travelling aboard the Kubu Queen is that each dawn greets another as yet unexplored part of the Okavango. You cruise with the flow of the river in comfort and moor in close proximity to the feeding run, setting up camp on uninhabited islands that break up the countless channels.
The Kubu Queen is a double decker houseboat, accommodation and galley are located downstairs, whilst the lounge and dining room is upstairs.
The boat sleeps a maximum of six guests in three rooms. The boat is chartered to one group at a time for their exclusive use, so privacy, exclusivity, flexibility and remoteness are the key elements of its experience.
The sleeping areas comprises of 2 cabins with double beds, and the upper deck and open air bedroom with 2 single beds (mosquito nets are provided) Separate toilet and basin. Included is a fully equipped kitchen and bar.
What is included All meals and accommodation on board the Kubu Queen.
What is excluded All drinks, Items of a personal nature, gratuities and travel insurance. All fuel for the tender boats. (Fuel will be charged separately according to usage)
Children The Kubu Queen is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.

The Okavango River's crystal clear waters are home to a variety of fish as well as crocodiles, hippopotamus and otters. They also support an abundance of bird life, approximately 350 species. Several species of bird are rare and endemic to the area. Guests to the area also have the chance to glimpse a sighting of the rare and elusive Sitatunga antelope.
Nature Walks can also be conducted on some of the larger islands found along the river, view the Elephant, Buffalo, Lion and all the big game.
International flights go direct to Maun where you take a charter flight to Shakawe Airport.
The houseboat is moored on the mainland near the town of Shakawe. It is easily accessible by tar road and Shakawe has a small international airport suitable for light aircraft.
