Fishing, in all its forms is the largest participatory sport world wide, with fly-fishing being the fastest growing component, appealing to a niche segment of the market.
In South Africa, the market is comparatively small, by international standards, but extremely affluent, with Markinor research estimating that there are over 350 000 fly fishers in South Africa. Although the base of these consumers has expanded to incorporate participants across the L.S.M. spectrum, due to the cost associated with the equipment and participation, it remains an aspirational sport for the majority.
A good deal of active fly fishers, are in senior management positions and decision makers in the corporate world looking for any excuse to indulge their passion in this sport.
For both the aspirational fly fisher and the active participant, fly fishing programmes are compelling viewing, providing a unique window into this consumer.
The WildFly Fishing series is the exclusive producer for Supersport of this entertaining sport. Going into it’s third season, starting in April 2007, we have been contracted for a further 26 episodes , each show airing a minimum of six times over a two week period on Supersport 1 with repeats on alternative Supersport channels. As you can see from the flighting times of our last series, this is prime time television, spanning the full spectrum of scheduling opportunities.
Our aim is to showcase the wide variety of species that can be caught on fly and entertain the viewer on the sport of catching these exciting game fish, focussing on the destinations that the discerning viewer aspires to visit. From fresh water to salt, and lake to river, all disciplines will feature interacting with members of the current Protea fly fishing team at each location.
Over the course of the next 12 months, the WildFly team will be filming at some incredible locations including -:
- Lake Tanganika
- Seychelles
- The Maldives
- Okavango Delta
- Bazaruto Islands
- Lazarus Banks
- New Zealand
- British Columbia
- Chile - Patagonia
- Madagascar
- Lake Kariba
- The Quirimbas
- Kenya
- Angola
- Lesotho
As well as a wide variety of superb travel destinations in and around Southern Africa.
We have the largest database of fly fishers in South Africa, which through our National Catch Register (current conservation initiative), will only grow and with whom we can communicate and can therefore further publicize the shows and selected brands.
Further to this we have negotiated a media package with the national Fly fishing magazine and with our designation by SARFA( the controlling body of competitive fly fishing) to handle the marketing of the Protea Fly Fishing team, are effectively communicating with the fly-fishing community of Southern Africa at all levels.
